Apple has received a great deal of favorable publicity in the last year as it introduced the iPhone and increased market share in computer sales. Whenever a company gets that kind of publicity, a number of people will buy its stock simply because it was mentioned in the newspapers, without really analyzing whether the stock was actually worth that or not. This halo effect can last as long as six months to a year, but it disappears on the appearance of any bad news, in this case a market downturn.

Apple was grossly overvalued because of all the publicity, so it was the first stock to be dumped when the market turned down. Now it is probably grossly undervalued. Personally, I stay away from volatility. There are too many people who are trading stocks, as opposed to investing in companies. There is a big difference. One is looking for a quick profit on a short-term change in price; the other is looking for long-term accumulation of value.

The short-term traders often do quite well and they brag about their successes, but overall their investments do not do as well as if they had put their money in slot machines in Vegas. That is why I stay away from volatility.

That's what makes all the rancor about this so funny. Depending on the reading of this EULA provision, Apple's limits are still as, or more, restrictive than Microsoft's.

But at least they are clear. And, last time I checked OS X wasn't far of the 99$ mark for a 5 instance home license. Compare that with Micro$oft:p :p

    No.

Simply because htcSensation is 1.2GHz dual core

and... and... iphone5 will have lesser RAM than htcSensation.

Also, Apple is closed and Google is open.

    okthxbai

Sorry i didn't realised that you were developing the iPhone5, how do you know what will be in the iPhone 5

    3. A scalper bought a huge portion of the tickets to resell. Apple does not let you transfer tickets. You must check-in at the registration desk with government issued ID (4th year attending).

To be fair, you can transfer WWDC tickets before they're activated. There are some on eBay right now. Otherwise, a company couldn't buy them for more than one employee.

Dunno if this was posted, but Safari lets you resize text boxes within pages:

    http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/8060/picture28by6.th.png (http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture28by6.png)

Would be better if it worked like OmniWeb and allowed you to open a resizable floating window for the text.

Oh, this rumor, again (like the 4th time?)...

I am not sure why it won't die. I suppose they might, I just can not think of any reason why. The Apple TV as a STB is a much better fit for them. Might they sell this to tv makes as an embedded option. Maybe. Will they make their own TV, I still don't see the point.

Has anybody thought these might all just be preventative filings?

Apple is smart to file a patent on something that might be "similar" to technology they have developed just to maintain their exclusivity of the technology.

Apple might be filing this just so they can say, haha, Microsoft, you can't produce this because we invented it first....and then Apple moves on to the next big thing without ever producing a product based on the patent.

As far as the trademark stuff goes, it is the same logic. Apple needs to protect as many derivations of the "*Pod" mark in order to make their Pod trademarks even stronger. Apple will probably never produce something with the "doPod" trademark, but any other company thinking about naming their product the "doPod" will think twice before getting into a legal battle with Apple, who has one of the most recognized digital entertainment trademarks in the world.

You can show me Patent and Trademark filings all day long and I will simply reply with a "prove it"

How long after you make a purchase does the App Store remember your password so you don't have to enter it again? I presume that's what happened in this case.

It didn't take my 10 year old son long to figure out that he could continue to download apps after asking me to download one for him. Now, if he wants a free app, I wait for it to finish downloading and then i log out of my account before i hand his touch back to him!

Then you have never streamed video onto your phone from home or Netflix or Slingbox. It's not pleasant over 3G onto the iPhone - looks and responds even worse on the iPad.

    We need 4G NOW!

TonyAgreed. Anyone who tried to watch MMOD knows that 3G for streaming video is worthless, particularly for high motion. The quality is too poor to see anything.

The only thing I don't like about these iPhone 5 rumors is that they're proving everyone who said the iPhone 5 would be a half-step upgrade right. No NFC, no LTE, no larger screen size, nothing. Better chip, slightly better camera, maybe higher storage, and that's it on the hardware front, apparently. World phone capability is hardly anything to get excited about.

I would seriously consider hanging onto my 3GS until next year if I thought it would survive another year, so I wouldn't get locked into a two-year contract on the iPhone 4.5 when the iPhone 2012 will have all the features I've been waiting for.

At 10:30 this morning Bristol had a few white Verizon pads and a few black 16GB WiFi pads. Neither was what I was looking for. I went to MV, Spectrum, Fashion Isalnd, called Brea and Cerritos - all sold out. I am going back to Bristol for opening time tomorrow.

Yeah, I would estimate my dropped call rate is around 20-30% (Northern Virginia) sometimes higher depending on the day. They said they built a new tower near me, but ever since I got that message, my coverage has dropped at least one to two bars everywhere I go.

Same here in Northern VA...this in addition to the 3.1 bugs is just maddening...enough to drive me to another carrier. Waiting on some Android phones to be released with VZW...Sprint has the the new HTC hero as well. Might be about the closest thing to an iPhone that won't drop my damn calls.

Apple revamped their entire line of computers this year, a massive change over to a new CPU architecture and sales have increased accordingly. What more do you want from them exactly?

Well, first of all, when I say iPod, I am including all things music/movies, iTV, etc. To put it very simply, I wish Apple would use more of the innovative spirit that is going into their "entertainment" branch and put it back into their computers.

I reckon the zune will be in the same situation as the sony clie. Its gonna be an amazing product with a million more features than an ipod, but will millions of people buy. Just as sony couldnt compete with palm, microsoft cant compete with apple, but the xbox is very impressive for a software company so im not going to underestimate microsoft.

I am getting tired of feature after feature that no one needs. It makes the devices overcomplicated and moe expensive.

I don't need WiFi in an MP3 player. But since MS will have, Apple will have to add it in order to compete. Thank god they haven't added the FM tuner into the player. Which everyone seems to want...

Bah, these things are rubbish. The scroll wheel clogs up with dirt, just as scroll ball mice did in days gone by - except there is no user access to clean it thoroughly. Apple need to re-think the design on this one before updating it.

Yep, and me, I'm NOT coming back from my Logitech MX 1000 Laser. Mighty Mouse is only serving during those 30 or so min a week when the MX (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/features/opticaltopics/AR/EN,CRID=2090) is charging, and that's 30 min too long.

Been with O2 (UK) for many years I never had a dropped call until I bought an iPhone.

My signal is good, full bars on 3G and 2G. Dropped calls, calls failed happen regally.

I also hate sitting on a train, everyone else who does not have an iPhone has full-good reception, iPhone displays "No Service".

How about if inspector sections could be 'torn off' and moved or docked below like in photoshop? There are certainly 2 or 3 sections that I would like open all the time.

I can't stand Office's toolbars. The first thing I did was make my own custom box of tools that sits above the formatting palette on the side.

With wide displays, vertical space is the most valuable.

    Uh please.

Google has done a helluva lot to Android since they bought it. Android is unrecognisable now to what it was in 05. They have simply bought a brand name to get their product popular.

In other words, you are talking rubbish sir. Stop accusing people of trolling, when they are simply telling it how it is.

Google done HELLUVA work after Schmidt got onto the board of directors of Apple and got all the details he needed to copy every single thing?

Google fanboiis fail to see the reality how it is. Truth hurts.

Obviously Google has the same opinion as other Android fans... marketshare is king.

Although... in the business world... cash is king.

Congratulations Google... you now have a lot of marketshare. What are you gonna do with it?

Oh yeah... you're an advertising company. I forgot!

    And thats just it.

Google hasn't found a way to capitalizes on its smart phone market share.

So even if they get 75% of the market and Apple keeps its 25%, in terms of revenue Apple is still going to "win".

OS X isn't perfect, and it's unreasonable to expect that it will never ever be breached.

That said, Apple have done a great job thus far. My worry isn't so much individual (trivial?) exploits, but rather that OS X would go down the XP route and require constant patching. The last thing Apple needs is to have to fight fires in the same way Microsoft has had to with XP.

Security is a key selling point for the mac platform and it is essential that Apple maintain their advantage with the vastly improved Vista fast approaching.

I hope Apple will address these problems with the urgency they merit.
